Looking forward for the safest way to remove bloatware from your LG V30? You are at the right place. Besides it, this tutorial doesn’t require you to root your device.
The LG V30 is a very powerful phone. It comes with a Snapdragon 835 processor which is a very powerful chipset. The phone currently runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with LG’s very own skin on top. The UI is completely different from vanilla Android. The modified OS has some extra apps that some consider useless and all they do is run in the background and eat your memory and battery.
In this post, we will tell you how to get rid of the unwanted apps. Now, removing them completely isn’t possible but what we can do is disable them so that they stop functioning and the extra system resources that these apps are consuming will be spared and thereby making the phone much snappier.
Downloads
You need to download and install a bunch of things before moving to the main process. Download and install the following this respectively.
Make sure you have downloaded and installed everything. The ADB Drivers and the LG USB drivers are to be installed on your PC while the App Inspector is to be installed on your LG V30.
The ADB Drivers will be used to connect and run a few ADB commands on your LG V30 while the App Inspector app will help you identify the package name of the apps that you want to disable. Without the package names, you won’t be able to run the commands and hence downloading and installing everything mentioned above are extremely important.
Procedure
- Make sure you have downloaded and installed everything from the Downloads section.
- Now, you need to enable USB Debugging. To get the option, you’ll first need to enable the developer options on your device. Follow the steps below.
- Open the Settings app on your LG V30 and go to About Phone. Now, find the Build Number and tap on it multiple times.
- After you see the toast notification that says “You are now a developer”, go back to the Settings home and go into Developer Options.
- If the above steps don’t work, it’s just because of the changes in the UI. So check our up-to-date guide on enabling developer options on LG devices.
- While there are a lot of settings inside the Developer options, Find the option that says “USB Debugging” and turn it on.
- Move to your PC and open a new command window. To do that, just open the start menu and type cmd and press enter.
- Connect your LG V30 to your PC using the stock USB cable.
- On the command window, type the following:
adb devices
- This will start the ADB server and you will see a prompt on your phone. You need to tap on Allow on this prompt and you will see your device and its ID in the command window.
- Now again, enter the following command in the command prompt window.
adb shell
- The above command with start the shell service on your Android device. Using this command you can run Ubuntu/Linux command on your Android device.
- Now on your phone, open the App Inspector app that you downloaded and look for the bloatware apps that you want to remove.
- Now that you have everything along with the package name ready, you can enter the following command.
pm uninstall -k --user 0 "package_name"
- Replace the package_name along with the quotes and enter the exact package name.
- Press enter after you have entered the command on the command prompt window.
- The package will be removed/disabled for you and the app will no longer appear in the apps drawer of your phone.
Above we used some commands and solved a big problem in seconds, but did you know, there are a lot of commands which every Android user should know about? Check out our detailed list of ADB commands.
You can do it one by one for all the bloat that you want to remove and after you are done, you will be free of all the bloat that was present on your LG V30.
Don’t expect a jump in the system performance though, since these apps only consume a fraction of system resources but it is always nice to have some breathing space for other useful apps that you use.
Unhappy even after removing the bloat? Why not shift to a custom ROM which has zero bloatware? Our Android Ninja’s have handpicked the list of best custom roms for LG V30.
Disclaimer: Flashing a custom ROM doesn’t require you to root your device. But the flashing process is a little tough, it requires you to:
- Unlock the bootloader of your LG V30
- Flash a TWRP recovery on LG V30
- Boot into custom recovery and flash the custom ROM.
Although, It doesn’t require root, but unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty for a lot of devices! We’ll be up with a guide on which manufacturers voids the warranty on unlocking the bootloader soon, till then if you’re aware about it, comment down below and we’ll add it in the next post!
