What is Always on Display and why it is used?
As the name suggests, Always on Display means your display will remain lit all the time but not literally. This means even if you lock your phone, your phone will remain lit with black background screen to show you basic information and notification. With this feature, you don’t need to unlock or touch your phone to see notifications or time. You can check time, date, battery capacity, missed call notification, unread messages etc. on this always on display and you can customize it as well as per your needs.
Though, Always on Display also gets shut down but only when it is needed. For Example, it will not work with a phone with a flip cover or when a phone is hidden in pocket/bag or when the device is upside down. You should be facing the phone display to enjoy the advantages of Always on Display. As you may be thinking that it will deplete the battery in just a few hours, you may need to think again. Always on Display works in a standby mode and don’t use any battery as it just displaying white light on a black background with minimum brightness.
Guide to Install Always on Display on other Galaxy Smartphones (Without Root)
Note: This Always on Display will work only on Galaxy S7, S7 Edge or any other older Galaxy device running S7 Edge ported custom ROM. Latest Android 7.0 Nougat is also mandatory to use this feature.
- Download the Samsung Galaxy S8 Always on Display APK File.
- Click on the downloaded file to Install. Make sure you have enabled the installation from Unknown Sources. To enable go to Settings > Security and tap on the Unknown Sources. Tap OK on the prompt message.
- Once the APK is installed you may feel a bit lag on your device. Wait for a for a minute and go to Settings > Applications > Always on Display. Tap on ‘Storage’ and then tap on ‘Clear Data’ & ‘Clear Cache’.
- Clearing the data and cache will remove the lag and you would be able to use Always on Display without any problem.
